In the 100-or-so Yamaha Music Schools in the UK, people of all ages can learn:
Keyboards
Guitar (covers Rock, Pop & Blues)
Drums
Vocals
Sax and Flute
The power of Yamaha's system lies in the combination of the following:
Well-structured course materials - including books and CD, covering solo and band repertoire as well as technical pieces.
A blend of traditional and more intuitive musical skills. Most courses cover: technique, playing from a score, sightreading, working out music entirely by ear, improvising, accompanying, etc.
A 'live' teaching system designed to specifically for group learning. All Yamaha teachers receive regular training and support in the Yamaha materials and method, to help them keep their own musical and teaching skills in good shape, so they can deliver the very best lessons.
A 60-minute weekly lesson - well prepared, with a written lesson plan - delivered via a whole-class, teacher-led approach. This helps provide a fun, briskly paced lesson each week, accommodating different learning needs, building on students' achievements from the previous week and moving them towards the next step of their journey in music making.
(NB: this is different from other group teaching systems, where students are put on headphones in their lesson while the teacher works with one person at a time.)
A learning approach modelled on the natural listen-copy approach that all parents use, worldwide, to teach their children to speak. Research in the last 15 years shows that, in babies, those parts of the brain that grow physically in size in response to mother-tongue language learning, are also largely responsible for music. So this is a very natural way to learn to play, which appears to be hard-wired into our brains.

WANT TO BECOME A YAMAHA TEACHER?
Yamaha Music Schools are often looking for musicians to train to teach in Yamaha schools. We teach on keyboard, guitar, drums, vocals, sax and flute.
You don't have to have previous teaching experience by the kind of person we want to work with should:
Be a good all-round musician, able to perform to high standard on their instrument.
Be able to play confidently from a score (ie, traditional notation).
At the very least, be able to provide simple chordal accompaniments during lessons. (Vocalists and wind players should have sufficient keyboard skills to be able to do this.)
Have a lively, outgoing personality and good sense of humour.
Be passionate about their own professional development. Yamaha will invest lots of money, time and energy to train and help each teacher to become the best teacher than can become. Only those willing to prioritise their own professional development are needed.
Be conscientious and trustworthy enough to be entrusted with the Yamaha Music Schools brand, which, as a Yamaha teacher, they would be representing. This means that they must be willing and able to act in a professional manner and strive to deliver the very best lessons, according to the guidelines, training and support Yamaha gives.
Have something - in addition to their musical skills - they think they will contribute to a Yamaha Music School team. This may include special organisational or team skills, high standards of customer service, being a great communicator, having some practical skills or knowledge that may help with concerts or promotions, etc.
Yamaha teachers usually earn more than in private teaching and also receive lots of help and support, which private teachers rarely get. Experienced and our most able and committed Yamaha teachers can often train to become Yamaha course instructors and presenters.
